AS4419 Soil

AS 4419 Soil refers to landscape soil blends developed in accordance with the Australian Standard AS 4419:2018. This standard sets out key requirements for texture, structure, pH, drainage, nutrient availability and contaminant levels, ensuring soils are suitable for healthy plant growth in commercial landscaping, streetscapes, gardens and urban infrastructure.

If you're delivering a civil, council or commercial project that requires adherence to Australian soil standards, Daisy’s AS4419 compliant soils are tested and ready to meet the specifications and high standards demanded by commercial clients.

AS4419 Technical Guidelines

ParameterTarget Range / Requirement
pH (1:5 water extract)5.3 – 8.0
Electrical Conductivity (EC)≤ 1.5 dS/m (sensitive species); ≤ 2.0 dS/m (general)
Wettability< 8 minutes (Time to Wet test)
Organic Matter (OM by dry weight)1 – 25% depending on blend and application
Particle Size Distribution (PSD)Must fit specified grading envelope per soil type
Phosphorus (Olsen P)5 – 15 mg/kg (unless otherwise specified)
PermeabilitySufficient to prevent waterlogging and support aeration
Nitrogen Drawdown Index (NDI)≥ 150 (NDI150) for organic-amended soils
Bulk Density (dry)600 – 1400 kg/m³ depending on application
Toxicity / ContaminantsFree from phytotoxic substances, plastics, weeds

Daisy’s AS 4419-compliant soil blends are developed to meet the performance benchmarks set out in the Australian Standard AS 4419:2018 — Soils for Landscaping and Garden Use. This includes specification of parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, permeability, nutrient levels, organic matter content, and physical texture. These criteria are essential for supporting healthy plant growth, preventing compaction, managing drainage and ensuring compliance on commercial, civil and council-managed projects.
