Project Overview
The City of Port Phillip recognized a need to redevelop the surfaces of the soccer pitches at JL Murphy Reserve. Upon contracting Turf One to the works Daisy's was approached to provide high quality SportEng certified rootzone Turf Sand was identified as the ideal rootzone material due to its sieve analysis and excellent drainage rate.
The project required a substantial volume of Turf Sand (approximately 2,960 cubic meters), equivalent to around 100 truckloads. The main challenge faced by the team at Daisy's was ensuring the volume required could be delivered on time from our production site at Colac with ease.
Challenges
There were several challenges the team faced when planning and undertaking this project, including:
- Product Specifications: The selected material needed to meet specific criteria, including particle size distribution, pH, hydraulic conductivity and porosity.
- Quantity: The project required 4,300 tonnes of turf sand, equating to approximately 200 truckloads for delivery. The deliveries required 150km transport from quarry to the site.
Ensuring the right product was selected, with timely and efficient delivery within the specified timeframe was a critical challenge.
Solutions
The experience team at Daisy’s Garden Supplies were well equipped to handle the challenges:
- Product Specifications: Daisy’s worked closely with the Turf One team to understand their requirements. Turf Sand was identified as a rootzone material that would be suitable for the redevelopment through a sieve analysis and drainage rate. Daisy’s provided detailed soil analysis and drainage rate reports to ensure the turf sand met the necessary specifications, including SportEng certification.
- Quantity: Despite the challenging distance, the Daisy's team managed the logistics by maintaining close communication with the Turf One team. Ryan Dunoon, Regional Operations Manager, ensured prompt responses and tailored solutions to Turf One, whilst Haydn Knowles managed the organization of the Daisy's truck fleet on the delivery runs, ensuring timely delivery to site.
Outcome
The project delivered outstanding results, significantly benefiting all stakeholders, including the City of Port Phillip, local sporting organisations and the wider community. Ready in time for the 2025 soccer season, the new turf surface was ready to support trainings, games and community events as the soccer season came to life. The successful completion of the project demonstrated Daisy’s Garden Supplies’ ability to manage complex logistics and adapt to challenging conditions, reinforcing their commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
