  • Prepare the area: Clear existing weeds and lightly water the soil.
  • Break apart and spread: Pull the bale apart into flakes/biscuits and spread evenly over the garden bed. We recommend applying Pea straw 75mm-100mm thick. 
  • Water in: Water well after applying to help settle the straw and encourage it to start breaking down.
  • Top up seasonally: Since it breaks down faster than bark or wood mulch, plan to refresh it each season, particularly in veggie beds.
  • Fast Natural Breakdown: Unlike bark or wood mulch, Pea Straw breaks down relatively quickly, which is by design, it's feeding your soil as it goes.
  • Topping Up: Because it breaks down faster, plan to add a fresh layer each season, especially in actively growing veggie beds.
  • Colour Change is Normal: Fresh straw will fade from a golden colour to a duller, greyer tone as it breaks down, this is a sign it's doing its job, not a fault.
  • Watering In: Keeping it lightly moist after application helps it settle and start integrating into the soil.
  • Wear gloves when handling the mulch.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin, and prevent inhalation of dust and vapours.
  • Store away from open flames.
  • Keep dry before and after installation.
