Gardensure Watersaver Mulch is a fine graded and composted pine bark, supplied in a 50L bag. Richly aged and composted for optimal quality and nutrient content, it has an attractive, ornamental finish that gives garden beds a neat, decorative look. As the name suggests, its real strength is water: by reducing evaporation it retains soil moisture and helps keep plants hydrated for longer between waterings. It also effectively suppresses weed growth to reduce the need for frequent weeding, and acts as an insulator that regulates soil temperature fluctuations to optimise plant growth. Over time it increases the organic matter in your soil and enhances overall soil health by improving structure and fertility, creating a healthier growing environment. It is an excellent all-round choice for beds and borders where both looks and performance matter. Mulch is generally laid 50 to 100mm thick. Available in bags or by the cubic metre for pickup or delivery across Melbourne and Geelong.

Yes, as the name suggests, it's specifically valued for reducing evaporation and helping soil retain moisture for longer between waterings, which is especially useful through Melbourne's dry summers.

Its fine texture and extended composting process set it apart, rather than being a raw or lightly processed bark, it's richly aged to boost organic matter and nutrient content in the soil as it breaks down.

It suits most garden beds and landscaping applications. As with all our naturally sourced range, it's worth checking with your local store if you have a specific or unusual application in mind.

There are approximately 25 bags in a cubic meter.

  1. Prepare the area: Clear existing weeds and debris. Lay a weed mat first for maximum suppression.
  2. Apply at the right depth: Spread to 50–100 mm. Too thin and weeds can break through; too thick restricts water penetration.
  3. Keep clear of plant stems: Leave a 50 mm gap between mulch and plant stems or tree trunks to prevent moisture buildup.
  4. Water it in. Give the area a good drink after mulching to settle the layer and start pushing moisture down to the roots.
  • Natural Ageing: As a composted product, Watersaver Mulch will continue to break down gradually over time, which is part of how it enriches the soil.
  • Product Variation: Being naturally sourced and composted, some variation in appearance is normal from batch to batch.
  • Topping Up: A light top-up as the mulch breaks down and integrates into the soil keeps beds looking full and well-maintained.
  • In-Store Viewing: For the truest impression of current stock, visiting your local store in person is recommended.
  • Wear gloves when handling the mulch.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin, and prevent inhalation of dust and vapours.
  • Store away from open flames.
  • Keep dry before and after installation.
