TifTuf Hybrid Couch FAQs
Here are some common questions about our TifTuf.
To purchase TifTuf and organise delivery of your turf, along with any Sand or Soil with it, contact your local Daisy's Store. Turf is available to be ordered from stores in the Daisy's network.
The world’s first turf type with the Smart Approved Watermark, TifTuf has been bred especially to stand up to drought conditions and the tough Aussie climate. Developed through years of research by leading turf scientists, TifTuf was selected from thousands of Couch varieties for its outstanding drought tolerance, shade tolerance and wear resistance, making it a genuine benchmark for tough, low-maintenance lawns.
TifTuf performs well with significantly less water than many other turf varieties, giving it a reputation as one of the most water-efficient lawns available. It's a sturdy, low-maintenance option that holds up well across a range of conditions.
Self-repairing and known for retaining its vibrant green colour throughout the year, TifTuf Hybrid Couch maintains it's look whilst standing up to everyday use. Its aggressive growth habit and natural resilience make it a favourite among landscapers and homeowners looking for a hardy, good-looking lawn with minimal upkeep.
Basic steps to install turf are below. To learn more visit our turf installation guide.
Each year, TifTuf will need to be fertilised to maintain its dark green colour. We recommend using LSA Fertiliser – Premium Lawn Food at a rate of 2kg/100m2.
Fertilise TifTuf in mid-September for it to green up after winter and fertilise a second time in early April to carry growth on into the cooler winter months. Water after the fertiliser has been applied.
TifTuf growth can be maintained with less fertiliser and water than other turf varieties – making it a more economical choice to maintain over the longer term life of the lawn. Always monitor the growth and health of your lawn prior to application to avoid over-irrigation.
If you’re installing TifTuf, then we do suggest using a starter fertiliser prior to installation. This helps to prep the base and kickstart your turf growth. After installation, another application of fertiliser will be needed at around the 5-6 week mark.
- Drought tolerant: TifTuf stands up to droughts. TifTuf only needs a fraction of the water that other varieties require to establish. This is because TifTuf produces more rhizomes than other cultivars, which contributes to its superb drought survival.
- Environmentally-friendly: If you’re keen to do your bit for the environment, then you’ll love TifTuf! Once established, it has minimal water requirements and can be maintained with grey, tank or bore water supplies.
- Hard-wearing: TifTuf is extremely hard-wearing. It’s resistant to high traffic, making it perfect for families with kids and pets! TifTuf is a tough grass and is often used in sporting fields and golf courses. Backyard cricket and after-school kicks of the football have never been better!
- Dense growth: TifTuf produces a dense growth habit with a very fine leaf blade. It’s an aggressive grower, and able to establish faster than other instant lawn types. So for a backyard project where you have kids and a dog itching to get back outside to test drive their new patch – there will be less time waiting while it establishes in its new home.
- Self-repairing: One TifTufs key features is its ability to self-repair. Its exceptional durability makes TifTuf a popular choice for public recreation and sporting facilities, sustaining seasonal wear and tear. It performs under high usage season after season, from football and soccer to golf and even grass tennis. This is thanks to its dense coverage and self-repair abilities.
- Shorter dormancy: TifTuf ticks all boxes when it comes to winter performance. While you should still expect some colour loss during the Victorian winter, a TifTuf lawn will green up earlier, coming out of the cooler months and into the growing season. It also enters dormancy later in the year and displays less cold-season discolouration than other Couchvarieties.
Victoria's dry summers and unpredictable water restrictions put real pressure on lawns. Watching healthy green grass fade to brown during the warmer months is a familiar frustration for homeowners across Melbourne and Geelong.
TifTuf Bermuda offers a practical solution. As one of the most drought-tolerant turf varieties on the market, it uses noticeably less water than many traditional lawn types, helping households manage water use and costs without sacrificing a healthy, green lawn.
TifTuf was developed through careful breeding and selection from a wide pool of Bermuda varieties, chosen specifically for its drought tolerance, shade tolerance, wear resistance and colour retention. Compared with many commonly available couch and kikuyu varieties, TifTuf holds up well with minimal watering, mowing and fertilising.
Its dense growth habit and fine, soft leaf blades make it a practical choice across a wide range of settings, from family backyards to sporting grounds. TifTuf suits homeowners after a low-maintenance, good-looking lawn, as well as those who need turf that can handle heavy foot traffic.
Our turf partners provide a warranty with all TifTuf purchases of 10 years. Warranty details will provided by the associated partner upon delivery of the turf.
